San Juan Rodworks was founded in 2020 during the height of the global Covid-19 pandemic. While fishing the Conejos river in Southern Colorado, I broke a rod tip and my day was over much earlier than it should have been. At that time, all the fly shops in our area were closed due to state mandates surrounding the pandemic. Not being able to replace my rod at my local fly shop, I turned to the internet to seek a suitable replacement.

While there were plenty of options for purchasing a new rod online, none of them seemed to fit what I was looking for.

• I wanted to get a rod in my hands and try it out on my own water. If it wasn't the right fit I wanted to have the opportunity to return it.

• I was looking for a quality, high performance rod at a reasonable price.

• I wanted a rod that was covered by a solid warranty (the rod that broke and ultimately started this journey had no warranty at all) and backed by a company that wouldn't make it complicated should I need to use it.

• I wanted a rod that came with an extra tip section to avoid the possibility of the same early end to my day I experienced on the Conejos.

• Finally, I was looking for a company that provided a level of customer service that is hard to find these days. Where I could pick up the phone and have a conversation with a real person about what rod might best suit my situation.

Since I wasn't able to find a company that checked all those boxes, I decided to start my own that would focus on delivering on the list above.

 

And that's the story of how San Juan Rodworks was born.

Today, we are family owned company and based in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. As we continue to expand our product line, our passion for excellence and customer service that has driven us from the beginning continues to be our focus.
